Nomination
As a long term resident of Scarborough, I have enjoyed seeing Scarborough grow. However, I believe there is excellent potential for Scarborough and surrounding areas to improve on these developments. As an active senior member of Scarboro Surf Life Saving Club, a cyclist, jogger, and avid walker along our coast, I have for many years experienced the shortcomings of our coastal precinct and premiere beaches. Our coastal precinct deserves the highest levels of cultural and community engagement, vibrancy, safety and lifestyle excellence. Currently I work for the WA AIDS Council and I am self employed as a Life and Business coach. I have a Bachelor of Commerce, two postgraduate diplomas (in education and health economics), which demonstrate my strong community values, thinking and facilitation skills, making me an excellent candidate for our council. Through www.ciprianomartinez.com.au I invite you to engage and consider my nomination further.
Kind Regards

Revised Scarborough Beach Urban Design Master Plan
This plan is very important, and would be a priority for me. I love Scarborough Beach and believe in fulfilling its lifestyle potential. Presently I am in favour of elements of the plan, for example improvements to the promenade, cycle access, and increase of street trees. However I think the City of Stirling needs to increase the capital cost budget from the current 53 million. Scarborough Beach deserves to have this budget quadrupled (State & Federal funds required) so that it can truly begin to be at the heart of the Sunset Coast.
The vision for Scarborough Beach should include a heated 50 meter pool within the tourism precinct. This would maximise the coastal precinct allowing people to swim and enjoy the cafe lifestyle on the coast all year round, attracting a greater family friendly crowd. The current plan for the northern end of the esplanade could be revitalised by incorporating a coastal pool. As Perth continues to attract international world swimming events, what a perfect venue a coastal pool would make to enhance the tourism dollar for the area.
The corner of Scarborough Beach road and the Esplanade could become Perth’s premier beach plaza, a centre for West Australian beach culture and art. The plan already encourages commercial and retail around the central tourism precinct which is excellent, yet Scarborough Beach can do better, consider the possibility of including a movie theatre (indoor and outdoor), a beach art gallery (with a wow! design) and library. Again this type of public and community facility would draw us into the tourism precinct all year round, and attract a family friendly crowd, which increases safety.
The current vision for Scarborough Beach needs enlightened expansion. In my opinion the Scarborough Beach promenade should be reconnected with Trigg to the north and Floreat to the south, by addressing the traffic pollution which consumes the current pathway. If we are to encourage the health benefits of exercise and the coastal lifestyle, then the length of this promenade ought to become a priority as one of our most enjoyed and favoured recreational pursuits. Imagine enjoying the vista, the fresh air, the beach art, and your local community, as we walk, run, and cycle along the beach edge.
I am also a big believer in a light rail network that would travel down Scarborough Beach road to Glendalough train station, giving many of us the opportunity to leave our cars at home.
It’s time for Scarborough and surrounds to embrace its full potential, this is what I will work towards; this is how I will vote on council.
